Weekend update

Emalee Sweeney has extended an invitation to Irish in Virginia members to join
her at the GFKeagans/Blue Turtle at Hilltop for a belly dancing extravaganza to
support the ForKidsHomeless Shelter tonight. This is the official invite:

ForKids Homeless Shelter Fund Raiser at GF Keagan’s Blue Turtle
Restaurant—Saturday, July 24th at 7:30pm. Help raise funds for this very worthy
cause with a night of belly dance and fantastic food! ForKids shelters local
children and their families during times of emergency and times of poverty. This
amazing shelter program has assisted hundreds of families in the Hampton Roads
area. Children currently residing in ForKids shelte…rs will be in attendance
at this event. GFK/ Blue Turtle will be donating a portion of food purchases
directly to ForKids. GF Keagan’s Blue Turtle is located at 1550 Laskin Road, in
the Hilltop East Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. Reservations are highly
recommended. Call 422-9545.

The meetup today at Busch Gardens is postponed due to the heat.

Our next meetup is at the Oasis on Aug 6 for a summer nights Karaoke evening.
Come on out and sing your favorite summer songs. Bring the entire family for a
night of silly singing and giggles as we try to beat the heat!! Bring your cool
with you!  Also, bring your cash to buy your raffle tickets for a chance to go
to Ireland. Limited tickets, so don’t wait until it is too late.

Andy O’Driscoll is coming into town on  Monday, Aug 2 to play at H20.  The Beach
Bar is a great way to end an evening at the beach or wind down after a hot day
at work.

33rd Annual Williamsburg Scottish Festival and Celtic Celebration Oct 2, at
Rockahock Campground
Irish in Virginia and the Richmond Irish American Society are partnering to
present the Celtic Village with the Green Oak Pub, so please be prepared to come
out and help out for a bit and support the Irish community in this new
adventure.

The Wednesday Session at the Oasis was fantastic this week with four generations
enjoying all types of music with instruments as varied as tin whistles to tubas
and wash tubs. Some amazing fiddling happens every week, as well as banjos,
bodhrans, guitars, flutes, kazoos, and mountain and hammer dulcimer. The singing
ranges from ballads to bawdy and serious to silly.   Stop over for an hour or an
evening to have a true Irish experience of the “kitchen session”. For those who
