Friday, June 25th – Stuart Jackson at Ellwoods Coffee
With these 100 degree temperatures I know heat is the last thing you want, but the Irish music will be smokin’ on Friday, June 25th, from 8-10 at Ellwood’s Coffee. Young uillean piper Stuart Jackson will be performing traditional Irish music along with Paul Wilson on guitar. Here’s contact info for Ellwood’s Coffee: coffee@ellwoodthomp sons.com — 804.612.1827, 10 S. Thompson Street, Richmond VA 23221 — corner of Thompson and Cary. They have very good, healthy organic food, an assortment of interesting beers from microbreweries, and also wine.VV

Weekend update and news you can use.
24. June 2010 by admin.
have been out of the loop with a minor surgery and so do not have a good list of Irish music this weekend at the Beach. Conklin’s and Murphy’s continue their World Cup Fever and offer cool respite from the heat! Stop in and meet up with your friends to follow all the action!
Although Ireland did not make it through, we are very proud to sse that the victorious USA team has a fair share of Irish Americans!
If you are on Grandby Street on Friday in Norfolk make sure to visit Jack Quinns in the early evening to see James on Friday is up on the mezzanine. Cindy Kays may be appearing at Quinns on Saturday, but I cannot be sure. Rachel is always available at Mo and O’Malleys to pull a good pint at the best listening room in town.
Bernard Farrel invites everyone to join his sesson in Richmond at Finn McCools on Saturday night!
The Wednesday session at the Oasis was a grand affair this week and will continue throughout the summer.
Andy O’Driscoll returns to town next week with an appearance at H20 for Irish night on Tuesday and finishes his visit at Conklins for the rest of the week.
The SawDoctors are performing at the Shenandoah Valley Music Fesival on August 14th. If you are interested in joining a group to attend this festival and concert, please let us know and we may be able to arrange for a group rate. This project will only go forward if we have enough interest in the next three weeks to allow for planning. http://www.musicfest.org
For classical music fans, Basil Walsh contacted IIV to let us know about his blog detailing Irish Classical music. http://basilwalsh.wordpress.com/
We are being represented at the Celtic Night at the Waterfront and need volunteers to help set up and talk to visitors. The more participation we have, the more fun everyone can have at the event!
Grogan’s pub at Busch Gardens is the meetup for July 12 around 5 oclock. Members are meeting up before moving on to the B-52 concert!!!
We will not have a July gathering because folks are vacationing, but we hope to see many people down at the Oceanfront enjoying Celtic Night.
From the Irish Times
As some may have heard, the Irish Government is offering a Certificate of Irish Heritage. Here are two articles that may be of interest. The first is the original reporting, the second is one Irishman’s view of the whole ordeal.

Hope you enjoy the giggle and save your money!

They seek anyone who emigrated from Cork to America in the 1950s/60s and is planning a visit to Ireland this summer. They also seek anyone who came to the US in the 50s/60s and has since moved back to Ireland. Want to tell your story?
