March goes out like a lion!

Martin Marron is on at H20 tonight with all the good specials. The beachfront gets a happy spike with an extra dose of James West, Tuesday through Thursday at Murphy’s.  Jack Quinn’s has music every night, but they have been changing up the schedule so much, please call to find out who is there, or just go and enjoy whoever is there.  The Wednesday Session at the Oasis is on as usual!!!

ODU International Festival was great fun and a great success.

Irish Ambassadors at Work, the Embassy will be calling

Great times at the ODU International Festival where we were happy to meet lots of new folks. Looking forward to working with all the other ethnic communities! Trish and Terri from the Scottish Society brought some of their information to our table and luckily for us, the table residents next to us did not appear so Scotland was able to spill out of its borders. Gayle and John played  at our table, but next year they are going to be on stage, “No one puts Gadyls in the corner”.  Gayle and Dermot are professionals at getting out our information and gathering email addies to spread the word.

Jeremy Bailey won the gift certificate and Bonnie Dunbar and Linda Bennigton won CDs. We look forward to meeting all the new folks at our gatherings and events throughout the year

We posted some pics on the picasa site. ODU International Festival.

Last weekend in March!!!

Val Little is at Murphy’s and James West is at Mo’s this week. James will be doing a Friday gig at Jack Quinn’s Tomorrow night and Cindy is on at the Oasis tomorrow also. Hope everyone enjoys the last weekend of March madness!

Hope to see folks coming out to ODU to work the table or stop by for a chat on Sunday at the TED Convocation Center, 12-5.  Set up is 10 to 12. Call 5029496 if you can lend a hand.

Please volunteer and tell us what time you will be there for the ICF.

Recovery! and Steely’s Appreciation Party!

Hope everyone had a grand St Patrick’s Day. We got to a few of the local establishments on Wednesday and judging from the pictures on the web, lots of you got to a few too! Nice to see the Irish all around town!  As we recover, we are going to stop in tonight at the Oasis for a Steely Appreciation night karaoke fest!  Steely kept us in food and drink while Kelly was away and he loves the karaoke, so here we go!

We have it on reliable sources, that Steely has been practicing so we should be aware he is preparing to outshine us! Just for fun, there will be some small prizes for the karaoke folks, so get your best karaoke sound in shape for tonight!

Paradapalooza!

Our  Irish in Virginia - Friends of St. Brendan parade entry was a big hit with the crowd.  Just as we started down Granby Street, the rain stopped and the sun came out.  Some of the crowd called out to our St. Brendan, thanking him for bringing the good weather with us!  We fulfilled our goal of Saints, Songs, and Swashbucklers in style and with much fun, and with many laughs in the process.  We wrapped up our day with an after party and much needed food and drink.

Many thanks to all of our members who contributed in some way to the cause.  And a special thanks to those who braved the elements to decorate and then travel the streets of Ocean View with us!  We are a hardy bunch.  We even had some of our youngest members and a canine one in our ranks!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all!

St Brendan, his Albatross, and Grace O’Malley honor St Patrick in OceanView

For those who attended and those who marched, played, and worked up the crowd, it was a fabulous day with early rain and parade time sun!  From the early morning songs to the afternoon brunch at O’Sullivans, the Friends of St Brendan (he didn’t realize the company he was keeping!) had fun and thank the Knights of Columbus for having us! Plans for next year are already begun!!!

 Some parade highlights!
